F.A.Q.

Problem:
My new shoes are causing discomfort, what can be done to help ease the break-in process?

Solution
Sunset Cobbler will take your new shoes and soften the spots that rub which may include flattening the shoe’s edges and stitching, so you can enjoy the shoes right away. For at home treatment you can use a shoe stretching spray, spray on the inside and outside of the shoe on areas causing discomfort. Put on the damp shoe and walk to reinforce the stretching action of the product.
Problem:
My shoes were damaged from snow and slush, what can be done to save them?

Solution
If your shoes get soaked in winter slush, you have a one to two day window to clean them before the stains set in. Stuff them with newspaper. For at-home care, combine 50% white vinegar with 50% water and blot shoe with paper towel to remove salt. Bring in suede or leather to be cleaned immediately if you are not successful with the at-home care.
Problem:
My shoes just got soaked in a storm, what should I do?

Solution:
When your shoes get wet, never dry them with a hair dryer or any other heat source. Stuff them with newspaper and let them dry naturally. Once dry you will need to apply a leather conditioner or cream. You can also bring them in to Sunset Cobbler for a cleaning / re-conditioning.
Problem:
My pointed shoes are beginning to curl at the toe. What can be done to help keep their natural shape when I am not wearing them?

Solution
Keep pointy shoes from curling up and wrinkling at the toes by using a shoe tree. Sunset Cobbler can take an existing wooden shoe tree and customize it to match the shape of the toe of your shoes.
Problem:
I want to keep my shoes in the best condition possible at home. What should I do?

Solution
Store your shoes in a ventilated area; do not seal them in plastic bags or containers. Use cedar shoe trees; you have 125,000 sweat glands in your feet, all of them pouring moisture into your shoes. Cedar’s unique wicking action absorbs moisture, acid and salt, thereby reducing cracking and deterioration of leather. Apply a cream to your leather shoes once a month. Applying cream will help keep shoes supple and add life to the leather.
Problem:
How can I protect the tips and heels of my shoes?

Bring them into Sunset Cobbler for a consultation, as we can restore the original color if needed and can re-condition the leather. We also specialize in cleaning fabric and suede.
